Second try at a Stuhrling tourbillon. First one was a dud (stopped after 20-30 minutes), so I was a bit hesitant about having another go. Glad I did - this watch is drop-dead gorgeous, feels great on the wrist, and best of all, IT WORKS. One minor issue is the watch only runs for about 23 hours on a full (but careful) wind, so if I want to see it running when I wake up, I must wind it twice a day.
Several months later:
I've come to the conclusion that ALL Stuhrling tourbillon watches suffer from the same problems; i.e., they will stop for no apparent reason. Since, however, I purchased this watch as a showpiece rather than a timepiece to depend on, I've kept it and enjoy its antics. It IS a beautiful timepiece, and looks great in its display stand on my desk.
For the record, this particular watch typically stops only once (perhaps twice) weekly - MUCH better than the previous example. Nevertheless, it's caveat emptor when considering a Stuhrling tourbillon...

I was advised by a respected watchmaker that cheap movements such as these MAY wear themselves in and function more-or-less reliably after some time. Nine months of exasperation is enough - it goes to Stuhrling for repair, replacement, or (preferably) refund immediately after the New Years shipping rush is over. This watch, while being beautiful to look at, is utterly useless as a timekeeping device. In looking about the 'Net, I find my experience is not unique. My only hope is that Stuhrling actually honors their warranty, which seems a bit "iffy" if 'Net gossip can be believed.
